Superb Soundtracky Saturday: Little Miss Sunshine

Something a Bit Different for a Good Change

I believe many of you already watched Little Miss Sunshine. A born-again and unsuccessful (yet) motivator father, a mother in the shadow of divorce, a junkie addict grandpa, a son in silent-vow who worships Nietzsche, a daughter with the dream of being Miss-something, and a suicidal uncle who’ve just lost everything. All of them off on journey in a van, all of them reveal themselves, and all of them learn what being a family is. No ultra-expensive CGI special effect, no super glamorous stars, no convoluted twisted plot. Yet, the film is a totally freakin AWESOME!!!

The music composer for this movie and the producer for the soundtrack album is Mychael Danna, who also did the composition for movies such as Vanity Fair, Capote, Surf’s Up, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and many others. Other than the great funk/soul singer Rick James and his Super Freak remix, which becomes the only funky disco song in the album, the other two artists are indie artists and I never heard about them. They are DeVotchKa (a four piece Danver indie group who fuses Greek, Bolero, Mariachi with American folk and punk roots—quite a blend huh?) and Sufjan Stevens (a singer-songwriter from Detroit and his music ranges from indie pop, folk rock, to experimental).

Seeing the description of both artists, it won’t be a surprise that most numbers are sort of eclectic. Being someone who is not much into that kind of music, I was astounded. A good astounded. Those songs just won’t go away from my head. If you need a change from the all-too-often pop or rock music in you days, then Little Miss Sunshine Soundtrack could be a good choice.

Enjoy another Superb Soundtracky Saturday!

Hope you enjoyed it. You may share it if you like.
