He in turn was ripped off by his "friend" Dino Valenti (later in The Quicksilver Messenger Service) who copyrighted the song. So early covers of the song credited Valenti as the writer. The Byrds got hold of the song and speeded it up. Their roadie Bryan Maclean later joined Love, and brought the song with him. The Leaves saw Love performing it live and rushed to record it first, having a small hit. Love then recorded their version, and then the Byrds. Meanwhile at the time the Leaves were in the charts, folkie Tim Rose slowed the song down and recorded his version. Either Hendrix heard Rose's version OR he saw him live when he played in New York. Hendrix started playing the song in New York where Chas Chandler discovered him and brought him to the UK. Hendrix recorded the song and released it in 1966 as his first single, which became a hit in the UK charts. It was not added to the original Are You Experienced LP, but when that record came out in the States they altered the album deleting tracks and adding others including Hey Joe. It's a lonnnnng story :) Anthony HarlandAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389783734263136549.post-41286750133862385422019-06-02T19:54:35.509+07:002019-06-02T19:54:35.509+07:00No objections, just frustration the version you ca...No objections, just frustration the version you call the best of this song will not open here.
